Dear Mr.Obama , Please Keep Terrorists Out of the EU

Guantanamo Bay- One of the worst prisons in the world here you will find the worst criminals possible terrorists , mass murders and psychopaths. In this prison there are no human rights and torture is a routine. The new US president Barrack Obama recently announced that he is closing this prison . Now I agree that this prison needs reforms and I agree that there are some prisoners that there are prisoners over there that do not deserve to be there. However The President wants to entirely close the prison and deport the inmates to different areas - including EU countries !

The prison needs reforms , it is obvious that torture is wrong and in the 21st century it shouldn't be heard of . There are also inmates in the prison such as children and first degree murders these should also be taken out of the prison . However with terrorists it should be a different story , these are men who have made their choice in life they choose to kill thousands of people and inflict terror on society why should they have to be put in the same prison as other criminals ?

In his plans Mr.Obama also mentioned the possibility of deporting some of these terrorists to EU countries . This is something which I am completely against . Why should Obama want to hand over these terrorists to Europe ? Doesn't he realize that by 'fixing' this problem in his own country he will be inflicting an even bigger problem on Europe . Can you imagine these terrorists in Malta's prison ? This immigrant problem is big enough can you picture terrorists in Malta ? In the EP ( European Parliament) both parties the PES and EPP are in favor of closing the prison ,however the EPP have asked for a further review of the terrorists being shared with EU countries. . Why doesn't Obama keep his problems in his own country ?

Only time will tell however after this proposal my admiration for Obama is diminishing.

See you next week

Luke

  1. Even the EPP voted in favour of this Resolution, mind you!

BTW it is not Obama's problem, it is the European problem. The 60 suspectected persons in Guantanamo who have not even faced a proper jury before a law court owns European passports and have each and every right to be held in their respective EU countries.

I really can't decipher what is the hidden agenda behind the xenophobia spread by the rightist lobby. George Bush has also pronounced his intentions of closing the Guantanamo base and you did not utter a single word.

p.s. the EPP is not only made up of Christian Democrats

  2. First of all the EPP voted in favour of the resolution however the clause which states that the terrorists will be brought over to EU countries has been asked for further review and Obama wants burden sharing of not only the European prisoners . BTW i agree with closing Guantanamo Bay but I am 100 percent against burden sharing with the EU. Sorry about deleting your comments but I usually don't accept comments . Please add me on msn: rmizzi@onvol.net .

  3. It is not a question of right or left (judging from the tags following your aticle), even though the particular issue has revealed the true character of certain members of right wing parties. Sarcozy himself is in favour of this resolution and he's urging other countries to fulfill their duties. Furthermore we still have not heard Cameron's reaction to this proposal.

Unfortunately the local Nationalist media has distorted facts in order to cause fear among the public and throw mud at the progressive movement set up so far. Malta will not accept any inmates as long as these are not Maltese or else caught in Malta. Ironically the same people like Simon Busuttil who worked so hard for Malta to join the EU, can't understand this basic thing which goes in favour of the elementary norms of the European Union. What a pity indeed!

Funnily enough, right-wing opinionists do speak nothing about the huge area granted to the USA without the public knowing nothing about its future functions. Neither do anyone in Malta was consulted about the PFP agreement or the secret landings by American aircrafts which surely could lead us to further trouble than keeping suspected persons in their native homelands if there exists any,

You are a student who's supposed to have a clear vision of how life and politics ought to be. Just think twice before you sling words. Continue to push forward your ideas and don't leave anti-Barack Christian fundamentalists put blinkers onto your eyes.

  4. Is there an exact kind of plan/list to which European country(s) these criminals are being sent? (We're doing a project on America for school, and I'm searching for some flaws America's got...)
